Film show and discussion on migration. How is Interreg involved?

On the occasion of the celebration of the European Cooperation Day 2017, the  IPA cross-border Cooperation Programme Interreg  “Greece – The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” and the transnational Cooperation Programme Interreg V-B “Balkan – Mediterranean” are co-organizing a film show and discussion on migration.

The movie “Amerika Square” will be displayed (with English subtitles) and the director Yannis Sakaridis will honor us with his presence. It contains several stories interwoven against the backdrop of the current immigrant crisis prevailing in Athens, Greece. Filming was completed in January 2016. The film stars award winning actors, Yannis Stankoglou, Makis Papadimitriou, Vassilis Koukalani and introducing Ksenia Dania.

The film has already garnered several awards in worldwide festivals. It will be representing Greece in the 90th Academy Awards (Oscars) Ceremony as it has been put forward for consideration in the category of “Best Foreign Language Film”.

A discussion on the film and migration will follow, aiming at reaching a common understanding on how migration related issues and implications could be tackled within Interreg programmes.

The event will take place in Varossiotiko Arxontiko (Arx. Meletiou 44), Edessa , Greece, on 30 September 2017 from 19:00 to 21:00.

” One of the best European films to date on the subject of immigration.”
